Ontario province delays #digitalID rollout as #governments unveil plans

According to the government, the #digitalidentification program was scheduled to launch in late 2021.

However, because of the launch of the proof-of-vaccination app -Verify Ontario – the rollout will be postponed to 2022.

This means that the details and specifics about the digital I.D. program will be announced sometime in the next year.

So, starting next year, Ontarians will be able to download electronic copies of their government-issued identification—like driver’s licences and health cards—to their digital wallet.

The government’s digital I.D. program will allow people and businesses to prove who they are both online and in-person without using a physical card.

In addition, according to the government, the digital I.D. offers greater privacy than a physical I.D. card.
