The need to address the food security challenge in #Nigeria has become more pronounced with the current volatility in the global oil and commodity markets, which have reduced the government’s capacity to subsidise the cost of agricultural inputs.

Against this background, the Federal Government is utilising #digitaltechnology to boost agricultural growth and assure food security in the country.

Mohammad Abubakar – the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development – said that “The utilisation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) will significantly bring about an effective system of service delivery not only in the Ministry of Agriculture but service-wide.”

SOPs are globally recognised guides that provide instructions compiled to assist all public institutions.

It looks like Nigeria is on the right track to reducing errors and increasing productivity.

UK: The importance of digital transformation in making health and social care services sustainable in the long term

While every year, thousands of lives are saved due to innovative and groundbreaking healthcare, the NHS cannot ignore the fact that the kingdom needs to have the right digital foundations in place.

Digital transformation must be the backbone upon which all of these reforms are based.

That’s the only way to achieve the ultimate goal of any #healthcare policy: keeping people healthier for longer.

According to Sajid Javid – Secretary of State for Health and Social Care of the UK – “The government is determined to use the power of technology and the skills to drive a new era of digital transformation. So our health and care system will thrive long into the future, delivering vast benefits for patients.”

The four pillars of public sector digitalisation that make for success

#Digitalisation has already changed the way we live and work.

However, its impact on #publicsector organisations was limited until the pandemic proved there was no other way but to go forward at light speed.

As digitalisation becomes more important in the public sector, information technology (IT) systems need to be even more secure and reliable than before to handle the resulting volumes of data and the number of users.

In these circumstances, there are four main pillars that every government digitalisation strategy should focus on.

  • People and Culture
  • Technology
  • Data
  • Cybersecurity

While all four are critical, governments are (finally) beginning to treat data as key in planning, predicting and delivering public services.

Albania shuts down digital public services after a cyberattack

Following a synchronised cyber attack from outside the nation, the Albanian National Agency for Information Society (AKSHI) has been obliged to shut down online public services and government websites.

The shutdown has affected the governmental websites of Parliament and the Prime Minister’s Office, as well as e-Albania—the government portal where citizens can access public services.

This is not the first cyber attack against the small country, as in 18 months, Albania has been rocked by several data security and privacy breaches.

In January 2022, the #Albaniangovernment signed an agreement with the US company Jones International to reinforce the country’s digital security systems.

However, the government should probably also focus on training and educating its employees on how to stay cautious against cyber threats.

Australian governments need to focus more on digital inclusion

According to a new study, while more individuals are adopting digital channels to access government services, many people are at risk of being left behind — increasing their social and economic disadvantage.

One-third of citizens feel left behind by technology compared to about one quarter in June 2020.

Moreover, more than one in ten Australians feel extremely excluded, translating to around 2.8 million people.

This makes it one of the most pressing issues that need to be addressed.

The #Australiangovernment has made great strides in innovating services, and now, public agencies need to join forces through digital inclusion strategies so that all citizens can reap the benefits.

How has digital governance strengthened Mongolia's democracy?

In 2021, #Mongolia introduced its first-ever e-government services, known as E-Mongolia.

It was the pandemic that forced Mongolian policymakers to take their government online.

As of May 2022, E-Mongolia had digitalized over 500 public services, enrolled nearly 2 million users, and successfully delivered over 6 million services.

Apart from that, it looks like digital transformation has strengthened democratic institutions.

In addition to making it easier for citizens to participate in #government processes online, it also allows governments to become more transparent by providing more information about their activities online than ever before – including budget data, performance reports and other important documents.

This makes it easier for citizens to track how their government spends taxpayer money and hold officials accountable when they fail to meet basic standards of transparency.

Vietnam will remove bottlenecks from digital government operations

Despite encouraging results in #digitaltransformation efforts in the country, there are still many bottlenecks that have to be addressed.

That’s why several entities have been entrusted with preparing infrastructure and meeting cyber security requirements in order to connect national databases.

According to reports, they have been told to make use of quality data to deliver #online #publicservices.

By September, ministries and agencies must increase service capacity and quality while also expanding connection, monitoring, and access control over data transmission networks.

Agencies will also be encouraged to expand IPv6 adoption efforts, work on information systems, and develop a shared digital technology network.

Governments can strengthen public trust through secure digital documents

In the digital age, #government agencies primarily establish trust with citizens by creating clever and informative websites and social media accounts.

However, bad actors can take advantage of improperly secured content to damage the reputations of government agencies.

Such abuse has serious consequences for governments, agencies, and citizens.

That’s why governments need to focus more on providing secure digital documents.

This way, they can significantly reduce fraud, waste and abuse across government by making it easier for government agencies to verify identities and share information.

They also protect privacy by keeping personal information private while allowing individuals to control what is shared with whom.

The Digital Services Act Will Strip EU Citizens Of Online Privacy, Expert Says

One month ago, after a 16-hour marathon session, European Parliament negotiators and government representatives have reached an agreement on a new EU Digital Services Act.

The Digital Services Act is a piece of legislation that aims to make it easier for European citizens to access the internet.

However, experts are disappointed with the outcomes because, according to them, the Parliament failed to protect the people’s rights online.

According to Pirate Party MEP Patrick Breyer, “Industry and government interests have unfortunately prevailed over digital civil liberties.”

Marcel Kolaja – a Czech Pirate, Member and Quaestor of the European Parliament – is also disappointed, claiming that the Parliament wasted a great opportunity to make the internet user-friendly for European citizens.

What’s your take on this legislation? Do you think it will help or hurt the space of citizens’ digital rights?

The internet and mobile devices have the potential to change how people interact with the government, making it more responsive, efficient, transparent and accessible.

In the past few years, governments have begun harnessing this potential by adopting digital technology as a core element of their strategy.

The adoption of #digitaltechnologies is also redefining roles and responsibilities.

Citizens now expect public services to be as seamless and user-friendly as commercial offerings.

Furthermore, government agencies are seeing the benefits of collaborating across departments – including with citizens and businesses – to meet these demands.

The digital age is finally reaching China's Pacific coast as the East-to-West digital transformation becomes a reality

China has been working hard to make its #digitaltransformation a reality, and the eastern part of the country is leading the way, thanks to its more developed transportation infrastructure.

The use of the Internet for government service delivery continues to grow, and millions of Americans now interact with federal agencies online.  At the same time, the government has expanded its role in providing free online access to public information – thus entering an exciting new era for digital government.  However, it is critical that federal agencies coordinate around common goals and initiatives with private sector partners and state and local governments.  It’s also challenging for agencies to deliver results by setting clear goals in five areas: customer service, operations, data transparency, human capital, and acquisition. There is still much work to be done in building an open and transparent digital government that can better serve American citizens and that utilises technology for greater efficiency and transparency.

Digital Government in the #USA: Innovating for Quality, Inclusion and Access

North America is characterised by early adopters who are innovating to stay up with global advances in digital government. In the 1990s, the United States began a series of groundbreaking digital-government initiatives. Later on, the country constantly ranks in the top ten of the UN’s E-Government Development Index between 2003 and 2010. As available technology evolves and people’s expectations of #governmentservices vary, the USA’s digital-government ecosystem continues to expand and mature.

Nowadays, it has a sophisticated digital-government strategy in place at several levels to drive whole-of-government operations with a huge focus on quality, inclusion and digital access.

Abu Dhabi: TAMM has rolled out the second edition of its Bug Bounty Hunter challenge

The Abu Dhabi Government Services Ecosystem (TAMM) has started the second edition of its Bug Bounty Hunter competition, which allows its app users to report any bugs they encounter while using the app to do government business. To make it easier for app users to participate in the challenge, TAMM created the ‘Shake It’ feature, which allows users to report any bugs they encounter while using the app. More than 500 thousand people took part in the inaugural edition of the challenge, which resulted in the discovery and elimination of 756 distinct bugs. After successfully identifying the greatest number of digital bugs in the program, five winners were chosen.

#Germany has made new efforts to institutionalise federal data analysis

A €239 million investment is being made to create data laboratories in each ministry and the Chancellery, increasing the federal government’s capacity.

To be successful, these data labs must be integrated into an already established network of ministry data teams, statistical offices, technical services agencies, and government-funded research institutes.

However, this raises concerns about how to best organise the various roles of data analysis in a complex government bureaucracy.

Unfortunately, Germany falls below average in worldwide rankings of digitisation compared to other affluent nations.

Despite billions of euros in expenditure, it has been rightly criticised for insufficient progress.

The future of medicine will be shaped by a digital pathological ecosystem and artificial intelligence

An increasing number of cancer cases are being diagnosed via biopsies, and most of those samples are then stored in the form of glass slides.

These slides contain vital information about the patient’s tumour.

Still, it’s all hidden away in the basement of their doctor’s office or hospital, where it is impossible to share with other doctors.

Within pathology, #AI approaches strive to solve these challenges, expanding on the data-driven revolution and digitalisation of workflows.

As AI advances, it will be able to do far more difficult jobs with accuracy unequalled by the human eye.

The best part is that it will achieve this in a way that augments – rather than replaces – established workflows, allowing specialists to apply their knowledge in new ways.

Many governments have taken a fragmented approach to the digital revolution

The digital revolution has been a transformative force in the last decade.

Even governments have been impacted by this revolution – from the way they interact with citizens to how they deliver #publicservices.

But many #governments have taken a fragmented approach to the digital revolution by not creating a specific Digital Ministry.

This has left them ill-equipped to deal with the issues that arise from this transformation and ultimately unable to create the best environment for their citizens or meet their needs.

As a result, disjointed approaches are adopted across government departments, which can be detrimental to overall outcomes and strategy.

At the heart of this fragmented approach is a misunderstanding of what #digitaltransformation actually means.

It requires a complete rethinking of how government works, how it engages with its citizens and how it adopts new innovations.

The Brazilian government includes gov techs in its digital strategy

Brazil’s digital strategy has been modified to include activities targeted at improving engagement with government startups as well as system interoperability and consolidation.

The revisions to President Jair Bolsonaro’s decree are aimed at improving the quality of citizen #services offered through the platform.

One of the important strategies to allow these changes, according to the government, is the participation of gov tech (technology-based businesses focused on the public sector).

This update comes as a way to encourage the development of better tools and services, which the government hopes will help Brazilians more easily interact with their country’s #publicagencies.

Rethinking citizens' experience in the digital era post-pandemic

The pandemic has forced governments to accelerate the adoption of digital technologies.

For citizens, this will result in a more digital experience and will mean greater use of digital services.

And as a result, they want to interact more with their governments through digital channels.

#Governments need to embrace new ways of working, taking into account the end goal and purpose of their actions, to satisfy citizens’ needs in the digital age.

Government-to-citizen (G2C) experiences can vary widely, which means the role of #technology and human factors in creating citizen experiences is becoming increasingly important.

#UAE: Driving licences will be delivered by drones

The government of the United Arab Emirates intends to use drones to deliver some papers and documents, including citizens’ Emirates identity cards (EID), driving licences, and other documents.

UAE’s love of high-technology gadgets and its display of wealth can be seen in this, the country’s highly advanced drone project.

However, a six-month test period will determine how well the new delivery drones will operate in Dubai before the program is introduced to the rest of the UAE within a year.

US State governments are letting go of their relationships with mainframes

US State governments are letting go of their relationships with mainframes

State governments have historically relied upon mainframe systems to run many of their most critical applications, and the reasons are obvious.

Mainframes could support large-scale applications that ran mission-critical processes, they were typically highly secure, and they offered an impressive degree of reliability.

But as these agencies confront a growing need for digital transformation, they find themselves working with legacy systems that can’t easily be linked to new technologies or modernized in a way that makes sense for their business.

The benefits of adopting modern IT solutions are clear for state governments.

They can lower costs, simplify support and provide a path toward modernization in terms of both technology and process.

Strong collaboration is key to protecting Canadian's digital identities

According to an expert panel, #Canada is still a considerably away from digital identity applications.

However, it has the chance to advance thanks to its active market and collaboration between these participants.

Canadians trust that both the government and financial institutions will safeguard their personal information.

The new #digitalgovernments will be hybrid and secure

The world has changed, and governments need to adapt.

The digital revolution has created a new kind of consumer: one who is used to instant access and ease of use, who is more informed than ever before, and who has high expectations.

In the public sector, we are seeing the rise of what I call “hybrid government” — the ability to combine data, use artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve the quality of services while also improving security and privacy.

There is an increasing push for governments to become more digital, with many exploring blockchain applications that could improve public records management.

I believe that blockchain can help address some of these challenges and increase efficiency and transparency in ways that will contribute to a more efficient and secure environment for delivering #governmentservices.

What should the #publicsector expect in 2022?

If there’s one thing good out of the #Covid pandemic, that would be the “good” disruption it brought to different industries and sectors.

As the public sector has been forced to cut back on expenses, it has had to find new ways to do more with less in a bid to control costs.

So, what are some areas the public administration should pay attention to?

As uncertainty around the pandemic continues, people will be more at ease with sharing #data with different #publicservices.

Cloud adoption will accelerate faster as the demand for alternative infrastructure increases.

Data will play a more critical role in offering better, more personalised services.

Global report: senior officials lack understanding of #digitalgovernments

New research from Global Government Forum has revealed different barriers to digital transformation shared across governments.

According to the interviews done for the research, most senior public officials do not “fit the bill” of a #digital champion.

Moreover, civil service recruitment and performance management weed out people who could bring these projects to fruition.

The report highlights that public servants are more focused on honing their political and policy skills than technical expertise in most countries.

This means that while many of these leaders have a good understanding of the #digitalagenda, they’re not quite sure how to realise that potential.

Can New Zealand's government stand up to coming cyber threats?

Recently, we’ve seen some terrible revelations of #cybercriminals targeting #data from #publicagencies and businesses.

The threat of cyber attacks is growing exponentially, yet the government’s knowledge of what they should be doing to prevent them is not.

However, according to the Marc Daalder reports, this is about to change.

By the end of 2022, New Zealanders will be able to see a ranking of the country’s cyber resilience in terms of its capacity to withstand an online attack.

Also, officials state that there will be more focus on tracking how that ranking improves or deteriorates over time with regular reports.

Lately, businesses and the public administration have faced more online security threats than ever before.

With everything migrating to the #cloud and people relying more and more on the internet to connect with their #government or different businesses, it puts higher importance on #cybersecurity.

Theoretically, consumers want #dataprivacy and protection, but they have little power to pressure private organizations to build these features into their technology.

Technology maturity
Technology productization
Private Sector Adoption

Securing the global #digitaleconomy beyond the China challenge

Recently, the demand for technological #infrastructure has increased as countries at all levels of development modernize their information and communication networks.

#Governments and industry leaders have deployed—and continue to deploy—billions of dollars every year to make digital connectivity available to as many people as possible.

The investments could benefit local communities that otherwise lack any broadband technology but pose significant risks if networks are built without adequate safeguards.

The #UnitedStates has a role to play in securing the future of the internet and the global #digitaleconomy.

Thus, a revised route to #digital modernization will reduce China’s cyber power and influence, premised on open participation.

California: Narrowing the #digitaldivide with pandemic benefits

The #COVID-19 pandemic has heightened the need for universal broadband access, so it is difficult for students to attend online classes and for parents to work at home.

The divide is particularly true for the low-income communities and those communities of colour.

Last May, the federal government established the Emergency Broadband Benefit program to help close America’s digital gap.

The program offers a subsidy of up to $50/month toward broadband service for different eligible households.

However, #data shows that the program is not reaching all those who need the help due to different factors such as lack of awareness and the multi-step application process.

If #governments want to really close the digital divide, they have to overcome these and other barriers as well.

Achieving transformation by focusing on the #digitalecosystem

Transformation means change, but not just any change will do.

It has to be digital transformation — and it’s not easy.

The fundamental first step is knowing your digital ecosystem, where all of your #digital touchpoints exist in a complex network.

Of course, government departments have different inter-departmental processes and are able to communicate with third-party suppliers or agencies.

However, the successful implementation of systems that #digitise these processes requires deep integration with daily work routines, as well as with other #ITsystems.

Moreover, many experts believe that success is achieved through centralised management within a largely dispersed data ecosystem.

How does digital government advance global development and democracy?

The conversation surrounding the role of governments and citizens in advancing global development and democracy has shifted in recent years.

#Digitaltools for communication, information and participation have fundamentally changed how people interact with each other, their governments and other public sector organisations.

While some governments have yet to fully embrace these new #technologies, others see the value they can bring — and are leading the way.

However, even the most comprehensive digital government initiative is likely to focus mainly on digitally specific components.

But, there are other components as well, achievable through building human capacity, strengthening government institutions, policies, and especially in advancing democracy and political participation.

Five #digitalidentity trends that are injecting trust back into #governance

Governance is about trust.

If a government does not trust its citizens by having reliable, accurate #IDsystems with secure authentication and the ability to identify anomalies, there can be no trusted relationship.

In the digital age, this is more important than ever, so here are some trends that are helping to instilling trust:

Decentralised identifiers and self-sovereign identity
Blockchain and other distributed ledger technologies
Encrypted health records
The rise of the Identity of Things (IDoT)
Enterprise-grade blockchain tools

Otherwise you risk contributing to a #digitaldivide and actually not serving your citizen’s.

#Australia: 55% of #digitalgovernment programs ‘failing to scale'

Government agencies differ in the objectives, makeup, and scalability of their #digitalprograms, according to a survey which was conducted by Gartner last month.

Digital government programs attracted more investment during the pandemic, but many governments have not yet fully translated the investment into results and outcomes.

Thus, those that have yet to innovate digitally should take inspiration from the momentum created by the digital disruption to drive their own digital transformation.

According to Gartner, some more digitally advanced governments make sustained, long-term commitments to digital and create balanced digital agendas that include both transformational and optimisation initiatives.

When it comes to approaching #cloudtechnology, #governmentleaders may need to focus on a more critical element than they initially realised: their workforce

Governments need to focus on citizen-centricity in their #cloudstrategies, says Deborah Snyder, Senior Fellow at the Center for Digital Government.

Building trust online involves a combination of technical and non-technical considerations.

Key strategies include:
Assess in-house skills
Identify training needs
Break down silos
Promote cloud literacy beyond #IT
Emphasise security training and awareness.
Leverage external skills
Address staff concerns

While #ITleaders must consider employment policy and other legal ramifications, they should also take a more personal approach; because employees are not just cogs in a machine.

#Togo - one of the world's poorest countries - found a better way than many developed countries to activate a stimulus

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a catastrophe claiming millions of lives and plunging millions of others into extreme poverty.

This increase also marked a new high-water mark for government spending on #socialassistance.

A large share of the money was given in the form of cash payments.

While other countries could rely on tax #data and unemployment rolls to make the payments, Togo found a better and smarter way.

A country with about 8 million people took less than two weeks to design and launch an all-digital system.

People with no tax or payroll records were identified, enrolled in the program, and paid without any in-person contact.

A truly excellent achievement for Togo!

#Diversity in #government #digitalservices is a win-win

Digital services are one of the fastest-growing industries currently.

However, #smallbusinesses, especially women-owned, struggle to compete with more established companies.

Connecting them with willing, inclusive mentorship along with capital investments creates an equitable environment for businesses in underrepresented communities.

This will ultimately promote economic growth at all levels of society as we look forward to 2022.

After all, a diversified supply chain will only enhance the delivery of the government’s digital services.

Why bridging the #digitaldivide requires both industry and government?

The digital divide has held back millions of the world’s poorest people, denying them access to opportunities and preventing them from entering the global economy.

The tensions between the government and the #privatesector are centuries old.

But for the first time in history, it’s becoming apparent that leaders can no longer tackle many of today’s biggest challenges alone, especially when it comes to problems with #digitalisation.

To succeed, they must break down all the barriers and work together: government and business, local and global, and across agencies and departments.

The Covid-19 #pandemic has exposed the vulnerability of minority communities, especially when it comes to broadband access, which makes the partnership even more critical.

In the era of #digitaltechnology, many countries are struggling to develop and maintain a convenient and high-quality #egovernment platform.

It’s not always easy to do that due to outdated information; this issue is particularly prevalent in developing countries that face a number of problems such as slow Internet connection, lack of software compatibility with other systems, and more.

To survive in this #digitisedworld, leaders must be able to recognise and accept their countries’ potential for high-tech development and understand how to make the best use of it.

Digital society's lifeblood is data

Government data is a valuable resource that can help drive innovation, improve decision making and inform citizens.

How the government manages this data – from the collection to usage and transparency – will play a crucial role in defining #digitalgovernment.

After all, #datamanagement is a critical element of any competitive #digitaleconomy. The movement to make data freely available and accessible to all citizens and businesses has taken its place as a crucial element of global #governmentpolicy.

However, it is not without challenges and barriers such as fragmentation, silos, hard-to-process formats, no transparency, etc.

Unfortunately, according to #McKinsey, only a handful of countries have taken significant steps toward addressing these barriers so they can create interoperable and connected #governmentdata platforms.

#OECD: #Slovenia needs a new strategy for its #digitalgovernance

In its latest digital government review for the country, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has noted that Slovenia’s current strategy cannot correctly sustain its ambitions towards a digitally enabled state.

If it wants to improve its efforts, it urges the country to step up its efforts to use ICT better for #digitalgovernment, including strengthening policy levers such as business cases, project management, procurement of #digitalprojects and budget thresholds.

Moreover, in order to ensure the highest quality of services is available across Slovenia, it is essential to be aware of user experiences while also being open to new strategies and approaches.

Here's how #Estonia has managed to create trust in its digital-forward government

The Republic of Estonia is one of the world’s leaders when it comes to offering #digitalpublicservices and is well on its way to becoming a fully #digitalsociety.

Most of its government functions operate online — including health care and voting, and the country is almost entirely cashless.

But, how did it manage to achieve this state? After all, people’s trust is not given.

Well, none of this would be possible without a cybersecurity-first mindset, from the inception of the first national strategy in 2008.

Only by adapting to change, building the trust of its residents, and encouraging cyber literacy and transparency, it increased the trust of Estonians in digital #publicservices.

How can #Canada support indigenous entrepreneurs through #digitaltraining?

According to Bull, president and chief executive officer of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Businesses (CCAB), 70% of indigenous entrepreneurs needed access to capital during the pandemic, but only about 50% applied.

There are several reasons for this hesitation: barriers to applications, lack of awareness, or a previous relationship with a traditional financial institution.

Thus, one way to empower these young entrepreneurs is by offering digital training because #digitalskills are a must in this day and age.

This knowledge will help them to continue to grow and be productive members of their community later on.

According to the Economist, #Germany needs a reforming #government

While the government has been credited for its swift and effective crisis response to the pandemic, it now needs to use the recovery as an opportunity to invest in the #digitaleconomy.

Despite being a world leader in #technology, Germany lags behind other countries on the #digitaltransformation at a time when reliable #digitalconnectivity is more crucial than ever.

Average mobile data usage and connection speeds are relatively low, and the uneven availability of high-speed Internet has created a digital divide between rural and urban areas.

The 2021 #NASCIO Awards provides best practices for #governments to learn from

For decades, NASCIO finalists have offered important lessons that all public-sector agencies must know and follow.

This year’s three #cybersecurity finalists (in the US) are #Minnesota#North Carolina, and #Ohio.

Cyber-attacks continue to be an increasing concern for the state, local, and academic institutions all around the world.

Every year, there has been a noted increase of these attacks in the form of ransomware, data exfiltration or extortion, which have a devastating impact on the #governmentinfrastructure.

Since this trend is forecasted to remain a pervasive occurrence in the upcoming years, different #publicauthorities and agencies can save money and time by learning from those who have succeeded.

That’s how they can decrease errors and deliver better, faster and more secure #digitalservices.

Minnesota is among the latest US states to introduce a secure digital option that helps residents provide proof of vaccination against Covid-19.

The #Docket app allows Minnesotans to view and share their immunisation records with local businesses or restaurants and other public venues where the vaccination is required.

It uses two-factor security identification and searches for immunisation records based on a person’s name and date of birth.

These efforts to provide US residents with digital versions of their immunisation records have tripled in recent months as employers and businesses require such proof.

However, those who don’t want to download or use the app can still request proof of their vaccinations from the state (even though it may take weeks.)

The Trickle-Down Effect of Renewed Federal Attention on Governmental #Cybersecurity

The renewed focus on #cybersecurity by President Joe Biden has people thinking whether state and local governments will need to follow suit.

According to a national #poll of government leaders commissioned by #Cisco, more than 80% said broadband is critical infrastructure and placed connectivity upgrades near the top of their priority project list.

The report underscored the pressing need to close the digital divide because cities and communities that aren’t connected digitally have trouble maintaining sustainable economies.

#Spain and #Germany will test cross-border #digitalID

The governments of Spain and Germany have signed a cooperation agreement that provides for a cross-border pilot program in the field of digital ID.

This initiative is part of the plan proposed by the European Commission for a European #digitalidentity. It aims to give each #citizen a #digitalportfolio that identifies users and allows them to access both private and #publicdigitalservices across the Union with a click of the phone.

Carme Artigas, Spanish Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, highlighted that citizens “must have the power of their data and identity and, the collaboration with Germany is an essential step on the European path to data sovereignty.”

The #Indiangovernment is finalising its "Digital Ecosystem of Agriculture" (IDEA) framework

This Ecosystem will help the government effectively plan towards increasing farmers’ income and improve the efficiency of the entire sector as a whole.

It aims to create a national database of farmers and bring out a data policy. In a written reply, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said, “The government aims to create a federated National Farmers Database.

The digitised land records will be used as data attributes for creating it. To bring dynamism to the farmer’s database, the linkage with digital land record management system is essential.”

The #IDEA helps in laying down the architecture for the Agri-stack in the country, serving as the foundation to build innovative agri-focused solutions by leveraging emerging technologies.

Is it time for the #UKgovernment to rethink its #digitaltransformation?

The public and private sectors have constantly been working to enhance their services through #technology adoption in the #UK.

It has slowly but surely worked its way up to deliver a #digitaltransformation programme that adds value to both the organisation and its citizens.

The #GDS has really managed to offer a high-quality user experience; however, the digital transformation needs to go much further to achieve its true value.

Government departments can learn from the experience—and mistakes—of private sector businesses and opt for the platform as a service approach to store their #data.

It needs to ensure that this data is used responsibly and that the government maintains compliance with #dataprivacy and information security regulations.

The entire data gathered must be integrated and analysed to enable more intelligent decision making.

The commercial #cloud is key to #Singapore's #digitalgovernment

The pressure of using #cloudtechnologies had never been so intense for governments until the Covid-19 pandemic hit.

Multinational conglomerates like Google, Amazon, and Microsoft are leading the commercial #cloudcomputing revolution, providing organisations with both scalable and customisable options.

They bring the modern innovations and capabilities of these platforms to less sensitive #governmentsystems.

So, instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, Singapore’s government agencies can tap on commercial #cloudsoftware to integrate advanced functionalities into their #digitalservices.

Application testing and deployment can be automated and done in real-time, thus speeding up the delivery of high-quality public digital services to citizens and businesses.

Failing smarter in digital government

We need smarter failing in the #digitalgovernment space because by building actual things and testing them in the real world, the failures lead to learning and improved iterations.

Governments play a massive role in using smart #digitaltechnologies to drive #smartcity objectives

Smart cities are not a thing of the future. Thanks to advanced technologies and IoT solutions, governments are able to improve the infrastructure, efficiency, and quality of life for their citizens.

However, according to the G20 Global Smart Cities Alliance (GSCA), there are several governance gaps worldwide that need to be addressed.

Emerging technologies pose a new range of challenges, causing transparency and the trust issues of the public in their respective governments.

Issues like privacy, #cybersecurity#dataprotection, and connectivity are emerging as areas where these gaps exist regarding ethical and #responsiblegovernance.

Local and state governments in the #US move quickly toward more #digitalpayments

Many cities around the US have embraced digital payments for different municipal bills.

Even though they were unprepared at first with logistics that relied on face-to-face interactions, they were soon forced to find alternative ways to pay.

Even though we can say that somehow the world is returning “back to its normal state” pre-pandemic, some things seem to stay the same.

Citizens have not only adopted self-serve #onlinechannels but most of them choose to continue to pay taxes that way going forward.

However, there is still work to be done if these governments want to make digital payments even more popular among the public.

Here's how the city of #Austin has gone more #digital lately

The capital city of #Texas has adopted several technologies to help its local#government and education institutions embrace #digitaltransformation.

As has been the case worldwide, the #pandemic caused a significant shift in how #publicservices were delivered and the agencies were indeed found unprepared.

According to Mark Caraway, Information Systems Division Manager. “Changing the way the government communicates and interacts with citizens has been a key component of Austin’s digital service transformation.”

One significant step in the #digitalefforts was selecting #CityBase in September 2020, a cloud-based platform. It not only simplifies payment processes but also improves citizen experience, saves costs and streamlines workflow.
